There are a wide variety of uses for Wikis and a level of interest in using them that’s matched by an extensive range of Wiki software. Wikis introduce to the Internet a collaborative model that not only allows, but explicitly encourages, broad and open participation. The idea that anyone can contribute reflects an assumption that both content quantity and quality will arise out of the ‘wisdom of the crowd.’

...to survive the cold of London

As part of a project this week we're focusing on one person in the office to help develop/support their digital activities. I've called it Alignment Week - realign our support activities ahead of a challenging 2009.

A series of panels showing photographs of people living in refugee camps in the Congo. Whatever the weather, every panel was always brightly lit and, as you strolled past, you could hear singing and talking. I got to know the faces, like you might know your neighbours, and even some of their names. I could even hum the songs. It made me smile a little and laugh a lot.

The installation went up just as the problems in the Congo got worse last autumn. I often wondered how many of the people in the panels had been effected by what was happening, or worse. They were my morning companions after all. But, most of all, it reminded me of the amazing fortune with which I live my life, walking in safety along the Thames from a safe home to an exciting job.

Then one morning, the panels had been switched off. The next day, there was a van parked with the panels being uploaded. Then it was gone.

It’s 7.00am and it’s a lovely morning in Dorking, Surrey. I’ve left my house and walking to the train station. I’m on my way to London Waterloo via Dorking. I chat a little about what I’ve got planned for the day - my Social Friday (media day). Other than continuing with all my wiki rollout sessions - getting folk signed up - which is very time consuming, I plan to take a closer look at Sweetcron (The Automated Lifestream Blog) - web app pulling in all types of content - your social identity, news, videos, blog posts, pownce, tweets - personal social portal. Sweetcron signup I’m also planning to continuing my work on information architecture documents for a few new projects. This afternoon, I’m looking at thePublican.com’s spec documents for Firstlight ERA’s contextual advertising project integration. I’m really looking forward to it. Hope I can get onto Twitter.com at some point too
